SOUL WRITING SESSIONS
Your Writing Practice for
Self-Reflection & Deep Play
For women who yearn to unlock their voices after generations of not rocking the boat
Start with a prompt
Notice the judgments that come up
Let them go
Then write without stopping - forget about grammar, spelling and being nice about what’s inside
See what bubbles up to explore
There’s a vast, untapped inner landscape waiting for you there.
Writing from the Soul is an online writing circle for women.
A supportive space (on Zoom) for women to write together in community.
No judgment, no censoring, no critiquing.
This is a writing process focused on deep play rather than a polished result.
When you write you stop the clock on your life and give yourself time to reflect.
How it works:
We start with a prompt:
This could be a poem, a word or a phrase or an inspirational speech we start with by reading out loud.
Each person grabs a phrase or that word and chooses their first prompt.
We set a timer for 8 minutes …
and write without stopping. You don't worry about grammar, spelling or punctuation.
We read outloud:
We go around the group and each women reads out loud. The listeners are quiet simply holding space for a women to hear her own voice in the writing. There's no commenting, critiquing or even, "that was beautiful" at the end. We simply stay silent and then let the next women in the group read outloud.
We catch a line from each reading:
Borrowed from the amazing Marcella Allison, as we listen to each woman read out loud we jot down a line or a phrase that resonates with us.
We close with Read Backs:
again, borrowed from Marcella Allison, like a women's chorus we close reading out all the lines we've caught out loud for 3 minutes. You hear the symphony of voices sharing our collective, wisdom, struggles, humor and pain.
What People Are Saying
“When you write you stop the clock on your life and give yourself time to reflect. So I would really look forward to holding space for other women who would express some of those things that I didn't even realize I had been thinking about too.”
- Becky Wicks
“This really helped me get a sense of my own growth without worrying about being a perfectionist or appearing positively in what I was writing. It gave me a chance to see the ways I’ve grown.”
- Sian Bareket
